Who are we?

At last the Caterpillar took the hookah out its mouth, and addressed Alice in a languid, sleepy voice. “WHO ARE YOU?” said the Caterpillar.

Who are we indeed! It seems that you have stumbled down our online Rabbit Hole and are in need of a muse infusion. The Mad Hatter and White Rabbit have dug a new hole and want to share some of their whimsical, inspirational and entertaining writing and illustrating tidbits. We have energised the creative flow on buses, trains, haunted ships, secret gardens but can we do it in the ethereal world of internet reality?

Hatless fortunately not Headless…yet

For those of you who don’t know who we are, or who you are, or whoever anyone is, let us introduce ourselves. The Mad Hatter (Dawne) and The White Rabbit (Svett) have been inspiring and teaching kid lit writers and illustrators for over 8 years. We have been involved in creating the Huntington Beach writers group The Sand Scribes, the crazy maniacal Critique Mania and Sense and Sensibility workshops with WritersInk, and are also responsible for the SCBWI-LA’s Down The Rabbit Hole annual event. We find ways to help the muse get back on track to creativity with some wisdom and madness mixed in. You need to know how to have fun in this line of work!

Our aim within these pages, is to share our expertise and help ignite the fuse to your creative muse. And remember, one side will make you grow taller, and the other side will make you grow shorter. Either way, you can be assured your character will grow!

See you at the Tea Party!
The White Rabbit & Mad Hatter.

A note: the exercises included on these pages are copyright by Dawne and Svett and where mentioned, by Writers Ink. Reproduction of these without consent will most certainly have you stand before the Queen of Hearts and it could be “off with your head!” Please contact us if you have questions.

I have only read a few of your character exercises but felt I must stop reading at once and start putting together my character journal — how fun!!!
Thank you for so generously sharing and inspiring.

Hi Svett & Dawne, there is so much interesting stuff in here. I am inspired, but first I’m going to go out and buy myself a journal for my Character Journal. Great idea!

Wow! I love all of your ideas especially the charater journal. Now my characters can really come to life. You have inspired me to write freely without editing and who cares if it sounds crap. I may just finish that book after all.

I blogged Mad Hatter Day today and I used this pic of you and mentioned the event Down the Rabbit Hole
My wacky Holiday Calendar says October 6th is Mad Hatter Day. Here’s some writing advice from the characters in Alice in Wonderland.
    Frabjous Joy!
